Annotated Bibliography

“Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Nurse Jobs & Salary.” NursingJobs.com, www.nursingjobs.com/nurse-specialties/picu-nurse-jobs/.

This article lays out what a PICU nurse does exactly and their salary. I used this article to help describe what Brandy does in her current profession because although it may sound obvious many people may not know or understand what a PICU nurse is or does.

Jones, Joy. “Neonatal Nursing: the First Six Weeks.” Gale Onefile: Health and Medicine, 1 Feb. 2004, go.gale.com/ps/anonymous?id=GALE%7CA113568267&sid=googleScholar&v=2.1&it=r&linkaccess=abs&issn=02795442&p=HRCA&sw=w.

This article looked at the requirements to become a neonatal nurse, how to become one, and what to expect as a neonatal nurse. I used this article to back up information that I gathered through an in-person interview. This article also included some pros and cons to entering this specific field.

“What Is Neonatal Nursing.” NANN, nann.org/professional-development/what-is-neonatal-nursing.

This article included what exactly a neonatal nurse is, career options, and how to prepare to be a neonatal nurse. I used this article to explain what a neonatal nurse is, because although I am aware of what that is many people aren’t.

Writers, Staff. “Salary: How Much Does a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Make?” NursePractitionerSchools.com, NursePractitionerSchools.com, 4 Nov. 2019, www.nursepractitionerschools.com/faq/how-much-does-neonatal-np-make/.

This article listed the average salary and wages of a neonatal nurse practitioner (what I aim to be). This was used to help me see how beneficial entering this particular field can be, because although people say money does not matter it should be taken into account when deciding a career path.

“Nursing Unit Descriptions – UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central.” UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central, s3.amazonaws.com/uchealth-wp-uploads/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/08050251/PROF-MEM-Nursing-Unit-Descriptions.pdf.

This article describes the specific units within a certain hospital and the ratios of nurse to patient. I used this article to help me describe what a 12-bed unit is because it helped put into perspective what kind of situation Brandy Kelley was in.

“College of Nursing.” College of Nursing, nursing.fsu.edu/.

This article lays out the specific requirements to be admitted into the nursing program here as well as the process for which to apply and the step by step walk through of how the process works. I used this article to explain the serious nature and harshness the nursing program brings.

Staff, By: Nurse.org. “Neonatal Nurse Salary and Careers.” Nurse.org, 2015, nurse.org/articles/neonatal-nurse-salary-and-career-opportunities/.

This article discusses salary ranges in being a neonatal nurse as well as discussing how to increase your salary and how to get the most out of that career pathway. I used this article to illustrate the quite large amount of money neonatal nurses can make for working so little.

(N. Davis, personal communication, October 28, 2019)

(L. Lavery, personal interview, November 8, 2019).
